Hatfield, MA — For the week ending 11/20/2016, Hamilton’s Alex Regan and Western Ontario’s Pierce Masuara have been named the women’s and men’s Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the Week.
A Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the Week should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players.
Alex Regan (Hamilton College): In the opening match of her senior year, Alex Regan found herself in a challenging situation. The 21st-ranked Continentals found themselves tied 4-4 with 24th-ranked Wesleyan. Regan was down 0-2 in games to Wesleyan’s #4, Alexandra Imperiale. The Hamilton senior battled back to capture the individual match in five games (9-11, 7-11, 11-8, 11-7, and 11-7), giving her team the victory.
Pierce Masuara (University of Western Ontario): At the Cornell Round Robin, 23rd-ranked Western Ontario earned victories over 22nd-ranked Hobart and 18th-ranked Williams. The Williams match was incredibly close, with four of the nine matches going to five games. At the #9 position, junior Pierce Masuara was up 2-0 in games when Neel Jain came back to tie the match at 2-2. Masuara captured the marathon match 12-10 in the fifth (11-7, 11-6, 9-11, 8-11, and 12-10) to help his team to a 6-3 victory.
