College Squash AssociationHatfield, MA — The 2016 – 2017 season is underway.

Navy was the first varsity squad to begin the season. The Midshipmen travelled to California for a pair of matches and training. On October 29th, Navy shutout both Stanford (9-0) and California (8-0).

On Saturday, the Dickinson men hosted Lehigh and NYU. The Red Devils shutout both club squads.

In Buffalo, NY, William Smith faced Denison and Washington St. Louis. The Herons defeated Denison, 7-1, and shutout Washington St. Louis, 8-0.

Farther north in New York, Western Ontario crossed the border to face St. Lawrence. The 4th-ranked Saints’ men were too much for the Mustangs, defeating Western Ontario 9-0.

Vassar hosted a number of teams on Saturday. The 29th-ranked Vassar women defeated 27th-ranked Mount Holyoke, 7-2. Both Vassar and Mount Holyoke shutout Fordham. The Vassar men defeated both Siena and Fordham by a 7-2 margin.

In club-vs.-club team men’s action, the Virginia men defeated William & Mary and Richmond. Northeastern defeated Brandeis. Denison defeated Washington St. Louis. Colgate defeated Ithaca. Denison and Ohio State defeated Notre Dame. Bucknell defeated Denison. Lehigh defeated Swarthmore.

In club-vs.-club team women’s matches, Washington in St. Louis defeated Rochester and Denison.

Schools are reminded that to qualify for the National Team Championships, a minimum number of matches must be played:

  • Varsity teams are required to play ten (10) matches against other CSA teams to enter team championships. At minimum, each team should have at least 6 different opponents. Varsity teams should play the majority of their matches against other varsity schools.
  • Club teams are required to play eight (8) matches against other CSA teams to enter team championships. At minimum, each team should have at least five (5) different opponents.

For a regular season match to officially count for ranking purposes, each team must have at least seven players. Matches with less than seven players per team will not count towards the required number of matches for entry into the National Team Championships.
