Hatfield, MA — For the week ending 1/10/2016, Bowdoin’s Alexa Horwitz and Middlebury’s Ben Krant have been named the women’s and men’s Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the Week.

Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the Week should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players.

Alexa Horwitz (Bowdoin College): Bowdoin hosted St. Lawrence last Friday. With Bowdoin trailing 3-4 in the team match, first-year player Alexa Horwitz faced St. Lawrence’s Zoe Kagan at the match at the #3 position. Horwitz won a five-game match (6-11, 11-7, 11-9, 7-11, and 11-8) to tie the team match. Bowdoin won the final match to defeat St. Lawrence, 5-4, and defend their home courts.

Ben Krant (Middlebury College): At the Maine Round Robin, 18th-ranked Middlebury faced 17th-ranked Bates. With the two teams tied at four matches apiece, Middlebury junior Ben Krant took on Bates freshman McLeod Abbot at the #7 position. After losing the first game 6-11, Krant won the final three games to win his individual match (6-11, 11-4, 11-4, and 11-1) and propel the Panthers to a 5-4 victory.
