Hatfield, MA — For the week ending 11/8/2015, Drexel’s Fiona Power and Haverford’s Jonathan Nguyen have been named the women’s and men’s Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the Week.
A Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the Week should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players.
Fiona Power (Drexel University): Over the weekend, Drexel opened the season by winning matches against Franklin & Marshall and the University of Virginia. The match with F&M was close and first-year player Fiona Power made the most of her college squash debut. Facing F&M’s Ellen Verry at the #5 position, Power won the match in five games (11-2, 7-11, 11-9, 9-11, and 11-9), which helped the Dragons win the match 5-4.
Jonathan Nguyen (Haverford College): Haverford travelled to the Naval Academy for a round robin last weekend. The Fords had a tight match with Fordham. With the match tied at 2-2, Jonathan Nguyen faced Fordham’s #5, James Shinnick. After dropping the first game, Nguyen came back and capture the match in four games (9-11, 11-8, 11-2, and 11-9). Haverford won the team match, 5-4.
