Cornell University Ithaca, NY — Cornell had a challenging end to the 2012-2013 squash season. The Big Red’s final two matches of the year were both decided 5-4, and both times the team came up a match short. Now the squad is angling to move back up the rankings. “We have a relatively young roster that are working hard as a team to do well academically, achieve our goals, and have some fun along the way,” says head coach Mark Devoy. Four newcomers will be joining the squad. Sophomore Gustav Runersjo is expected to play in the middle three, and freshmen Harry Freeman, Kevin Flannery, and Augie Jones are all expected to play in the bottom three. Eduardo Pereira, a former Trinity player and captain, will also be joining the program as a volunteer assistant coach. The team is anticipating a season full of close matches. “All top twelve teams are exceedingly close so all matches will be important,” says Devoy. The Big Red opens the season away at Drexel in late November, followed by a home match against Western Ontario the next day.
