Northampton, MA — For the week ending 1/27/2013, Trinity’s Kanzy El Defrawy and Brown’s Eamon O’Connor have been named the women’s and men’s Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the Week.
With the season heating up, a number of players had standout performances this week. Connecticut College’s Sara Krivoshik had five solid wins for her team, while her teammate Ashley Arthur notched four wins, including two five-gamers. Mount Holyoke’s Shaheen Madraswala went 4-0 on the weekend, and Amherst’s Noah Browne racked up back-to-back wins at number 1 for the Jeffs at the Little Three tournament.
A Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the Week should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players. Nominations are due each Monday by 6 PM ET.
Kanzy El Defrawy (Trinity College): With the Trinity-Yale match tied 4-all, Trinity first-year player El Defrawy took the court opposite Millie Tomlinson, the Bulldogs’ number 1 and the 2011 individual champion. The Yale junior pulled ahead 2-1 in games, but El Defrawy battled back, taking the match to five games. El Defrawy prevailed 11-9 in the fifth, giving the fifth-ranked Bantams an upset victory over the third-ranked Bulldogs.
Eamon O’Connor (Brown University): Coming into their match against 14th-ranked Bates, the 18th-ranked Brown Bears had their work cut out for them. Playing number 3 for Brown, O’Connor, a senior, fell behind 0-2 in games against the Bobcats’ Walter Cabot. O’Connor stormed back to take the next three games, outlasting Cabot 12-10 in the fifth. The win helped tip the scales in Brown’s favor, giving the Bears the upset 5-4 victory.
