Northampton, MA — For the week ending 1/20/2013, Northeastern’s Amanda Georgescu and Drexel’s Harshil Dokania have been named the women’s and men’s Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the Week.
A Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the Week should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players. Nominations are due each Monday by 6 PM ET.
Amanda Georgescu (Northeastern University): Over the weekend, Northeastern was at the Pioneer Valley Invitational. The 36th-ranked Huskies faced #34 Haverford. At the match at the #4 position, Georgescu, a sophomore, met Haverford senior Alisa Strayer. After losing the first two games, Georgescu captured the match by winning the fourth and fifth games in tie-breakers (6-11, 7-11, 11-7, 14-12, and 13-11). Her victory helped Northeastern win the match, 5-4.
Harshil Dokania (Drexel University): At the Yale Round Robin over the weekend, 22nd-ranked Drexel faced 19th-ranked Colby. The two teams played a tight match. At the #7 position, Dokania, a sophomore, faced Colby junior Darryl Soto. After falling behind 1-2, Dokania won the final two games to capture the individual and team match (11-6, 8-11, 11-13, 11-9, and 11-7). Drexel president John Fry was in attendance and cheering Dokania and the team on.
