Middlebury, VT — Say good-bye to the Bubble: this will be the final year Middlebury competes on their old courts. “The foundation for our new 10-court facility will be poured at the end of October,” reports head coach John Illig. The Panthers have gone from an upstart new varsity to a B Division fixture in the space of a few years, and the new courts will help the program to continue to grow. The three new players on the squad — Andrew Jung (Seattle Academy), Harrison Croll (Brunswick School), and David Cromwell (McDonogh School) — have already had a chance to bond with their new teammates on the Panthers’ overnight mountain hiking trip in the Adirondack Mountains. That team bond will help the squad through what promises to be a competitive season. The Panthers can expect good matches against fellow NESCAC schools and are anticipating Columbia, St. Lawrence, and Drexel to be key matches as well. “We’ll be training hard, having fun, and fighting for all our matches,” Illig says.
