Ithaca, NY — Cornell had a great run at the 2012 Men’s National Team Championships. The sixth-seeded Big Red knocked 2011 finalists Yale out of the first round and had Harvard on the ropes in the 3-4 playoff match before falling 4-5 to the Crimson. With the loss of three consistent producers from the top five, 2012’s success may be difficult for Cornell to reproduce this season. Newcomers Abhijit Malik, Graham Dietz, and Karan Kankariya are expected to compete in the varsity line-up, but they’ll likely find places toward the bottom of the ladder. “The graduation of four seniors from the playing team has given the opportunity for the younger team members to step up,” says head coach Mark Devoy. The team has a lot of talent, and the successes of last season may help some of the returners to increase consistency. Devoy reports that the team members are already working well together, and Cornell fans are hoping the Big Red will continue to make it interesting in the A Division.
