South Hadley, MA — As we prepare for videos for the 2011 – 2012 college squash season, let’s take a final look at the 2011 Pioneer Valley Invitational.  Last January, the 2011 Pioneer Valley Invitational (formerly called the Smith-Mount Holyoke Invitational), brought together seven women’s teams and eight men’s teams for over forty matches.

Mount Holyoke hosted Bates in one of the most anticipated match-ups of the round robin.  At the #3 position, Mount Holyoke’s Tempest Bowden faced Bates’ Ashley Brooks. The two players had a tightly contested match. Brooks won the match in five games (8-11,  11-6,  11-7,  7-11, and 11-6).  Bates captured the team match 7-2.

During the Lyons’ and Bobcats’ rematch at the 2011 Women’s College Squash National Team Championships (Howe Cup), the match was a nail biter. Bates escaped with a 5-4 victory to finish the season ranked 11th in the nation. Mount Holyoke finished 12th.
