Nashville, TN — Vanderbilt’s record is somewhat deceiving. With only four players last season, the emerging club program had to default many individual matches in official CSA contests, even though they often won all the matches they played.
But Vanderbilt’s 1-3 record doesn’t reflect all the playing they did last season, or the successes they had. When the Commodores played best-out-of-five matches against schools like Haverford, Johns Hopkins, Berkeley, and Drexel, they were much more competitive and notched a number of wins. The team also participated in several joint matches with the men’s team, which gave them more experience.
“Our main goal for the upcoming season is to field 9 players as I truly believe we have the skill-level to compete with teams like BC, UVA, Colgate, etc. but just not yet the size yet,” says captain Maggie Bouscaren. The team will gain two players returning from study abroad and will hopefully attract new players from the vibrant squash community at Vanderbilt.
