Northampton, MA — For the week ending 1/9/2011, Harry Smith (Colby College) and Hannah Conant (Dartmouth College) have been selected as the men’s and women’s Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the Week.
A Harrow Sports College Squash Player of the Week should have a significant impact on his or her team’s performance during the prior week and demonstrate sportsmanship. Coaches and Sports Information Directors may nominate players by contacting Michael T. Bello. Nominations are due each Monday by 6 PM ET.
Harry Smith (Colby College): On January 8th, Colby travelled to Williamstown, MA to face both Middlebury and Williams. The Mules lost 1-8 to Middlebury and 3-6 to Williams. After falling behind two games to one, Smith, ranked 86th in the first individual rankings of the season, came back to defeat Middlebury’s number one, Jay Dolan, in five-games (11-6,9-11,8-11, 11-6, 11-7). Against Williams, he faced 37th-ranked William Morris. Smith won in four-games (12-10,10-12,11-8,11-5).
Hannah Conant (Dartmouth College): Also on January 8th, Dartmouth hosted Amherst and Yale. Against Amherst, senior captain Hannah Conant defeated Amherst’s Chandler Lusardi in three games (11-5,11-8,11-4). Against the #2 ranked Yale Bulldogs, Conant won the first game, 11-9, against Sarah Toomey (ranked 4th in the latest individual rankings). The second game was a marathon with Toomey emerging with a 21-19 victory. In the end, after 116 points, Conant won the match in five games (11-9, 19-21, 7-11, 11-8, 11-8).
