Canton, NY — The young St. Lawrence squad will have to regroup after losing six seniors to graduation.

The Saints lost players throughout the ladder, including Sofi Garnett, who played number 1 for several seasons, and Meg North and Alyssa Smith, who both earned All-Liberty League honors last season.

The returners with varsity experience include two sophomores, Frances Robinson and Molly Caplan, and two juniors, Kendall Hearty and Jennifer Hearn. The turnover should give these players the chance to compete higher up in the ladder and take on new leadership roles. It may also give several players who didn’t play in any varsity matches last season the opportunity to compete for St. Lawrence. Sophomores Allison Hibbs and Cordelia McHugh have another year of training to draw on, and seniors Mimi O’Connor and Patricia Poekel have varsity experience from earlier seasons.

The three first-year players on the squad — Kelly Hale, Charlotte Edson, and Carolyn Fisher — will make an immediate impact on the team and will likely see varsity action right out of the gate.

The college squash experience of new men’s and women’s assistant coach Chris Sachvie, a three-time All-American at Cornell, should also be useful as the Saints adjust to their new lineup.
