vanderbiltNashville, TN — During the 2005 – 2006 season, Vanderbilt’s team was only a 5-person experiment.  Today, it is a respected club program and one of the most respected squash teams in the southern United States. Last season, the team finished ranked 35th in the country. The first three scholar athletes in Vanderbilt squash history were named last year: Phil Field, Hunter Kinsella, and Jay Rosanelli.

Vanderbilt is becoming accustomed to traveling.  After all, their nearest competitor is four hours away by car.  Through fundraisers, the team was able to complete a 19 match schedule last season and compete in the National Team Championships. This season, the Commodores’ goal is to continue the momentum from last season’s expanded schedule.

This year’s squad will be captained by Hunter Kinsella and Jay Rosanelli.  They will look to guide the Commodores into this season’s Conroy Cup.  The team will participate in the round robins at the Naval Academy in November. They are also excited about traveling to Northwestern, which will be the team’s first match in the Midwest. Last season, Northwestern defeated Vanderbilt while both teams were on the West Coast visiting Stanford.

Off the courts, Vanderbilt players are extremely busy.  Recently graduated captain Henry Manice is the co-founder of Enjuba, a Ugandan company that sells products of local artists in East Africa. This summer, Hunter Kinsella, a film studies major, interned at Renveille, a television production company.  He spent time working on various projects for shows such as The Office, Tudors, Ugly Betty, The Biggest Loser, and 30 Days. Jay Rosanelli spent part of his summer at McLean Hospital, where he researched behavioral neuropharmacology. Over the past few years, Rosanelli has also tutored innercity Nashville students.
